TALL SHIPS
For 100 years, we have been here for all manner of ships on the Chesapeake Bay. From early oyster boats like Bugeyes and Skipjacks to today’s classic dead rise and replica tall ships like historic Jamestown’s Susan Constant, Discovery and Godspeed. We have gained a solid reputation for the restoration of classic boats. Our exceptional team of talented craftsmen and skilled shipwrights has experience with traditional details along with a solid knowledge of modern equipment. We accommodate tall ships with dockage up to 150 ft and with 15+ ft draft. Our marine railway can safely haul and handle tall ships up to 130 ft and with a beam of up to 35 ft. Schooner Virginia, Spirit of Massachusetts, and Ocean Classroom Foundation vessels frequent our dockage slips while other tall ships come to CBW for:
Our work on the Godspeed included a full paint job, upgrades to the electrical system, and service work for the northern lights generator. More recently, the Ring Andersen, a 114 ft, ketch-rigged, Baltic Sailing Trader, came to us for extensive hull and system repairs. After nine months in the yard, she was newly ribbed, planked, caulked, painted, and ready for a transatlantic passage with a brand new, handcrafted wooden rudder. Ring Andersen sailed for Bermuda, the Azores and La Rochelle, France. For this extensive refit, our skills and experience allowed us to accomplish the following projects:
